I dont use Outlook Express myself, so have never encountered this problem before. If you want to try something that is free, then you could have a look at http://www.frassetto.it/archivista/index.htm

OR

Have a look at http://www.mailnavigator.com/restore_outlook_express_dbx_files.html although this is not free ($29), I think you can try it before you buy, so may get you out of your immediate problem if it works.
